Rename
It's not rocket science.Batch renamer that I've been using for a few years now. Interface understanding isn't instantaneous but once there it's quite powerful.
- modify both suffix and prefix (at the same time if necessary
- suffix: easily add counter, size, date, time, folder name...
- prefix: counter, size, time...
Time for you all to tell me about a better one.

Don't know of ANY so that's a good start..
I was going to copy my pics on to a CompactFlash card, then using the Camera & Scanner Wizard, copy them back with sensible filenames.
This thing can use EXIF tags as well (so I can rename pics to include the date it was taken) - especially handy because when you modify a pic, I don't think the EXIF info gets saves back.

Nice.
For pics I've been using ACDSee solely for doing this as it can rename files based on the EXIF data. Haven't used ACDSee for anything else since I installed Picasa though.
This gizmo might mean I can ditch it at last!
