The mp3 playing phone question.

Well I got an upgrade coming to me. What I want in a phone is Linux compatibility, bluetooth, mp3 playing with a decent card size as max and possibly a radio. Im considering one of the following...

1/ Nokia 6230i. Mem has a max of 512m but thats nothing bad as it supports AAC and for headphone listening it can 1/2 the size of the files [Learned this on the N-Gage]. FM Radio. Bluetooth. Includes 32m card. 1.3mp camera.

2/ Sony W800i. / Sony D750i. Mem has max of 2G. Supports AAC also. 2mp camera [which is probably rubbish]. Includes 512m card. I know the D750i has a radio. There is however DRM issues with moving mp3 files to and from the device with the supplied software [maybe there is some freeware to get around this limitaion]. I suppose I could [and probably would] just use a card reader though.

Tending towards the Sony but had a horrible experience with one couple of years back. Anyone here have a recent Sony? What do you think of the menus and the like?

  • On a slightly different subject, I stuck a 1GB SD card in mine and watched an entire movie going to and from work the other week.. Battery life started off at 98%, and with the movie, usual calls/texts etc during the day - it still only dropped down to 65% by about 7pm.. not bad! (it can go 5 days easily without a charge if I don't watch telly on it)..

I actually sat next to a bloke on the train with a Treo.. I knew I wasn't the only one :)

  • mathias, are you getting a deal on those w800's? i called t-mobile and it would cost me £50 to get one and only £20 for the D750i. then again the 512m card that comes with the w800 is about the same price as the difference.

  • james, i love the treo but they are just too much £££ at the moment. they sync with linux in a snap as well. which is nice. something i am *hoping* that the SE phones will do

  • Wish I could contribute to this one. Still using my old P800 and that's not going to change any time soon!
